Today, TV crews toured Centenary’s brand-new $1.2 million high-containment lab. Our researchers will be able to double their efforts to understand and fight back against TB, a bacterium that lives inside two billion people worldwide and kills three people every minute.
In the run-up to World TB Day on Saturday, the cameras got a chance to see the airlocks and new equipment in the high-biosecurity lab before we lock up and start work with live bacteria.
The lab’s construction was two-thirds funded by a grant from the Australian government, with the rest funded by the NSW State government via Sydney Local Health.
